Courses in Holistic Healing

Courses in Holistic Healing

Have you ever wandered what it would be like to become a holistic healer? Due to increased interest in natural and complementary medicine, there are a growing number of courses in holistic healing; some of these programs result in certification or a diploma of completion.

To earn your credentials in holistic and natural health modalities, it's important to decide which courses in holistic healing will benefit you the most. For instance, if you would like to earn a certificate as a typical holistic healer, there are programs that can be completed in as little as four weeks. Studies often involve hypnosis, visualization techniques, therapeutic touch, reflexology, Reiki, EFT (emotional freedom technique), kinesiology, stress management techniques, energy balancing methods, and more.

Though aforementioned program is just one possibility from the courses in holistic healing available today, there are some holistic healing courses that are focused on massage therapy and aromatherapy. These more popular training options can be completed in less than one year; with general courses ranging between 300 and 500 hours. Common instruction includes anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinesiology, various massage modalities (i.e., Swedish massage, sports massage, and deep tissue, and others), CPR and first aid, and history/philosophy of massage therapy.

If you'd like to integrate new diagnostic methods into your herbal or holistic medicine practice, there are courses in holistic healing that teach you about iridology, kinesiology and biofeedback. Each of these holistic diagnostic tools enables individuals to better understand the body's functioning, and where areas of weakness or stress may exist. For example, when you learn how to use iridology, you will be able to clearly distinguish specific markers or characteristics on the iris that are commonly linked to particular health disorders.

Other unique courses in holistic healing may involve flower remedies, gem therapy, apitherapy, art therapy, essential oils and herbs, colonic hydrotherapy, life coaching, harmonic healing, Neuro-feedback, quantum touch, and other mind-body-spirit work, among others.

If you (or someone you know) are interested in learning more about these or other holistic health programs, let professional training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, naturopathy, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! My Fertility Healing Success

My Fertility Healing Success Story Plus Ten Tips For Every Holistic Healing Journey - Part Two

In Part One of this article:
"6 months ago I had doubts I would ever conceive. This is my fertility healing story. How I achieved conception with holistic healing."

Now let us continue with the next five top tips for your holistic healing journey.

5) Listen to inspiring healing stories

Inspirational stories uplift and give you the power to go on.
I listened to women, who told me their journeys and experiences. I was humbled by the courage of those who wished for children and never conceived. Many were inspirational in how they transcended the bitterness and sense of failure.

Some struggled for many years and then did conceive, and encouraged me onwards. Other powerful women friends had chosen to follow path without children, often with clear spiritual aspirations as the motivation.

6) Balance hope with relinquishment

This has been the crux of my healing journey, and I believe all healing journeys. There exists simultaneously the maintenance of hope and the vision of what is possible, and at the same time the necessity to relinquish (let go of) expectations, desires and results.

You desire something and don’t know if you’re going to get it. It’s a tough place to be at times!
Develop equanimity – being OK with how things are right now, but with the gentle intention to heal.

7) Grow faith and trust

So if we let go, what are we giving our heavy responsibilities to. The letting go process is a surrender than facilitates faith and initiates support beyond just me. This means different things for every person. What is the expression of divine support for you?

‘Letting go and letting God’ is a relief for me. It provides a sanctuary from needing to figure everything out ourselves. I have felt the back-up of this invisible support invaluable.

8) Learn to listen to the physical needs of your body.

After years of a mainly vegan, vegetarian and raw food diet, I found myself craving more protein. This meant meat, fish and eggs. I chose quality sources and cultivated gratitude for the medicinal gift of that food. I felt better and better once I let go of rigid ideas about how to eat.

Your ideal diet will be different from someone elses. The question is; do you feel intrinsically happy eating the food you eat. Does it energise you? If not, start exploring!

What are the main points with healthy food for healing?

Eat: Unprocessed whole-food, organic when possible, more greens and vegetables, fresh and some raw foods, healthy fats, less sugar and white flour. Drink: more water, less alcohol and less coffee. And most of all: enjoy your food… guilt-free!

Of course it’s not just about food. Enjoy heart pumping exercise regularly for pleasure.
Keep warm if you have a cool constitution. Give yourself healthy treats: take a bath if you need some nurturing, or have a massage (swap foot massages with a friend!)

9) Imagine yourself healed and invite everyone else to do the same

In the recent couple of years, when people used to ask me how it was going, I’d often say ‘just imagine me pregnant’. This was one way of saying ‘pray, but with the image of me already healed in mind’. This is always far more helpful than fearing the worst.
I am infinitely grateful for all of my friends and family who sent warm supportive thoughts in my direction.

10) Develop patience

This journey has made me more understanding and more human. I found out there is no right way, just dealing with whatever is in your plate the best you can. Take it easy and know the path to wholeness is paved with patience.

Conclusion

What is the best thing about embracing your healing process with trust, rather than handing the authority over to professionals who you think may know better?
You grow, you evolve, and you bloom inside.

I now know more truly than ever before that I am a beautiful, powerful and unique woman, who has the ability to transcend adversity and separation.
10 years ago, and even five, I couldn’t have shared that with you.

Holistic Healing Classes - Subjects of Study

Find Holistic Healing Classes in the United States and Canada. Individuals who are searching for innovative fields of study and would like to learn about holistic and alternative healthcare modalities will find that enrolling in one of numerous holistic healing classes can help them explore both ancient and novel healing arts.

Today, holistic healing classes are offered in simple learning platforms such as holistic seminars, workshops and in public community centers. As well, holistic healing classes may be more comprehensive in nature and integrated into certificate, degree and continuing education programs.

Students who desire to become holistic health practitioners can take holistic healing classes in healing alternatives, wellness and detoxification, energy medicine, mind-body-spirit medicine, and introductory Chinese herbal medicine. Others may elect to pursue holistic healing classes to become a spiritual healer. Certificate courses in this particular field of study involve studies in theology, prayer, mantra and meditation, spirituality, and other metaphysical subject matter.

Holistic healing classes in acupuncture may lead to a diploma, certificate or degree. Depending on the alternative health school in which you enroll, there are various holistic healing classes that are drawn from Oriental medicine philosophy and practices. While some holistic healing classes may be more geared toward needless techniques, such as acupressure, moxibustion, cupping and Chinese medical massage, other courses may involve more in-depth instruction in Tai Chi, Qi gong, acupuncture needling methods, TCM, herbal medicine, Chinese medical terminology and more.

A number of holistic healing classes entail studies in holistic divinity, animal healing, shamanic journeys, reiki, nutrition and supplements, essential oils, flower remedies, herbology, hypnotherapy, iridology, among others. In addition, there are very popular holistic healing classes that are centered on massage therapy. In these courses of study, students are taught about anatomy, kinesiology, physiology, and range of motion. Massage modalities that are offered through holistic healing classes encompass training in acupressure, deep tissue massage, sports massage, Swedish massage, touch therapy, medical massage, trigger point and countless other methodologies.

If earning your associates, bachelors, masters or doctorate is important to you then there are a number of holistic healing classes that are more advanced and comprehensive in nature. These holistic healing classes typically include practical and clinical instruction in chiropractic, naturopathy, Oriental medicine, orthomolecular medicine, and anti-aging and preventive medicine. In addition, professionals who have already attained some level of medical education will find that there are holistic healing classes in holistic nursing, holistic veterinarian and holistic M.D. programs.

There are several more holistic healing classes from which one can choose: some lesser known studies may include apitherapy (Bee products' therapy), animal therapy, bioenergetics, phytotherapy, naprapathy, Feldenkrais, Feng Shui, polarity therapy and many more.

Holistic Healing

Why This? Why Now? Holistic Healing - Is This The Answer?

Why This? Why Now? Holistic Healing. Is This The Answer?

I have just created a new business as a designer of web pages and online marketing. My first customer was one of my best friends who approached me with her friends, saying "We need some business and some credibility. " They were all into various avenues of holistic healing. I believe in the validity and integrity of the three women, so I decided to create the site: http://www.spiritenergyhealers.com. I not only believe in the ladies, but I believe in the product. I have always felt there is more to religion than going to church and just loving others. I have been fascinated by the spiritual side of it all. I have always felt there is more than just medicine and physicians to healing. I have seen the power of prayer, the strength of the human touch and the human mind. I look back to ancient times and the wisdom and power of healing with herbs, words and the earth, and I see empowerment there. I want to know why. There is more to healing, more to religion, more to spiritual guidance. I think the time has come when this all needs to come forward, and people open their minds and start to accept. The body, mind, spirit, and soul connection makes so much sense to me. How can we separate them? I want to be a part of this movement.

As my friends and I came together and I looked at their business goals and ideas, I felt they were helping me as much as I was helping them. I needed to start somewhere with my small business, and I really knew little about websites. The conservative town of Grand Haven, Michigan was not totally ready for their approach to holistic healing through spiritual guidance, Reiki, Shamanism and Archetypes. We do have yoga, massage and hypnosis in this western part of Michigan, but as I traveled recently to the Western part of our nation, I saw much more than this. In every block in Bellingham, Washington, I witnessed rolfing, intuitive readings, career karma, and every kind of yoga and meditation opportunity imaginable. I even saw medical doctors affiliated with alternative healing. I was impressed.. Even on the Eastern side of Michigan, progression is taking place. As I searched on the web for sites like I wanted to produce, I saw that Michigan is full of offerings in the Detroit area and even in the city of Grand Rapids. Maybe there was hope for the ladies. Recently, a new office site opened near my home. The practitioners offered Reflexology, Water Therapy, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Hypnosis and much more. It closed due to a lack of interest. All of the interesting evening sessions are gone too, due to lack of interest. What does it take to open minds? What does it take to get away from the narrow religious ideas held dear by our ancestors?

I consider knowledge and exposure to be the answer, and as I write about Reiki, Shamanism, Alternative Healing and ideas, I know a supreme being is guiding me and guiding those willing to help others as they create new businesses.

Let's look at Reiki. My first exposure was an interesting and frightening experience. My friend's home was across from mine. A beautiful home, it had been repossessed by the bank as the mom and daughters left one day leaving furniture and food on the table. Just left... Previously, I had witnessed police officers at the home taking away the stepfather of the children. He had sexually molested both of the daughters, and it soon was common knowledge in our small town. The home was on the market for an inexpensive price, and my friend purchased it. The home felt wrong. Something was just lacking in it, and we both knew it. We knew somewhat of what had happened, and the energy of it remained there. An inexplicable eeriness was present. I was informed that someone could help us. I had a do it yourself Feng Shui kit, but I needed more! The helper turned out to be a prominent women from the area; Lisa Lee. Lisa had been a parent at the school where I taught and on the school board. What? She did Reiki? What was this Reiki, and who really was this woman? I contacted her with my strange request: " My friend's home has bad energy and needs blessing. Help us please." She arrived that evening, coughing and choking as she entered. Yes, there was negative energy left behind. It had nowhere to go. She went outside, "grounded herself" and came in again. She calmly explained the procedure, and we were enthralled and maybe somewhat frightened. We were both open to whatever was going to take place. She talked about energy having nowhere to go, and we are all made up of energy. Even when not present, a person's energy can be left behind, and in this case, the energy from the pain and suffering of abuse lingered. This made sense to us, and what did we have to lose? Burning sage, rose water and prayers and blessings were ready for us to begin. As in the movie, "The Green Mile," the Reiki Master took in the bad energy and coughed, choked and cried as she did. In some areas of the home, we were asked to stay away as she felt the worst energy was there. She urged us to pray and not take in any of the energy ourselves. What an experience. She blessed each room with her prayers and ours, then we went outside and blessed the perimeter of the home. She left us with peace and a new feeling in the home. She went to Lake Michigan nearby and immersed herself with water to release the negativity. Strangely enough, I believed in this and was no longer fearful. Many friends thought we "had gone off the deep end."

A few years later, my dear friend, Margret Bazany, continued to suffer from lifelong migraines with little relief from medication. She was led to Reiki and to the same Reiki Master who had helped us; Lisa Lee. I was amazed to watch her health change and to see her interest in becoming a Reiki Master/Teacher grow. She studied and worked on Reiki, then wandered to Colorado seeking workshops in Shamanism, a form of ancient Native American healing. As she progressed in this, new avenues opened to her, and she realized she had a gift in healing and guidance. She became a Shamanic practitioner and then found studies in Archetypes, a way of finding your pathways in life. She opened her own practice, and I listened and watched and shared her so very interesting experiences.

A few days before my daughter's wedding, we had a fun session at my home which turned quite serious. My son who lives in the Pacific Northwest was home for the wedding, and he, Margret, my daughter and I gathered at my home, contemplating the wedding nervously. Margret felt a Reiki session for each would help. Reiki is a procedure which is like a fully clothed massage where the hands hover over the body, shifting energy around and eliminating negative energy.
So peaceful, so calming. My son and I were totally relaxed after our mini sessions. Then Margret focused on my daughter, the bride. She has suffered from Irritable Bowel Syndrome for years, and as tension increased, the intestinal spasms increased, and Katy was in fear there would be ill effects on her wedding day. Margret focused her energies on Katy's lower abdomen. She coughed, choked and cried as she took in the negative in this body area. We were of course skeptical, but each of us had hope and faith in Margret. Besides, this was just a "fun session." Whether it was actual healing or mind over matter ( and who is to say that is negative?!), Katy's IBS improved, and not only was she healthy and serene on her wedding day, but she has had few attacks since!

I was having fun with all of this Reiki business and loved hearing about any form of alternative healing. I guess it takes a believer in a product in order to promote that product.
As I considered my new advocation of website design, Margret introduced me to others who had become her new "spiritual friends." I listened and learned about womens' guidance groups and finding animal totems and guides. I watched women who had found peace and solace in yoga, meditation and studying about alternative healing. I marveled at how they felt different and shunned at times in a small community and how they wanted to find their avenue to help others grow and expand and think and be at peace in a hectic society. Margret's friends became my friends; Lydia, a former minister at a nearby church who now offered alternative worship, weddings and baptisms and helped women find their true being through "soul groups, weekend retreats and wilderness journeys. Then there was Cecelia, who working through the medical field, saw there was more than just medicine needed to make a person whole. She had also become a Reiki Master/Teacher and was specializing in Children's Reiki and Animal Reiki.

My first website began, and as I worked, I studied and saw the whole world of holistic healing through exploring other sites. I began searching for links to other sites and organizations and publications to which my group could become a part. I was enjoying learning about web design and people design. I have become a true believer in the product I am promoting for friends.

I definitely think that if we are to find true peace, harmony and health within ourselves, we need to become whole. Our energy needs to be true energy, the impure toxics need to be cleansed and we need to take time to stop and let our energies flow free within us. We need to look farther than taking anti-depressants, fat-burners, diet pills and hundreds of other medications. It is time to open minds and openly look at what else life has to offer. Out there? Yes! But the time is now to heal, grow and be a part of our earth and life itself. I hope to promote this through my work and my helping others in their work.

Check out a sample of holistic healing at http://www.spiritenergyhealers.com for Reiki, Children's Reiki, Shamanism, Archetypes, Spiritual Guidance and Direction, and womens' wilderness retreats. Holistic Healing Schools Take an Alternative Approach

Holistic Healing Schools Take an Alternative Approach

Holistic healing schools take an alternative approach to the healing arts, educating students in the use of natural, non-surgical, and drug-free health treatments. Believing in the self-healing mechanisms of the body, holistic healing schools teach alternative health care methods such as hypnosis, meditation, aromatherapy, massage therapy, astrology, Feng Shui, natural and energy healing, spiritualism, yoga, and much more.

Holistic healing schools (also known as Natural Healing Schools) are one of the most popular of new age teachings. Holistic studies can encompass everything from the martial arts like Tai Chi, to Reiki and Zero-balancing. Future practitioners learn natural methods of alleviating pain and homeopathic ways to cure the body's ills.

The length of time it will take to complete a Holistic Healing course depends on the objectives of the student. There are advanced degree programs for Natural Healing, including four-year degrees in acupuncture, acupressure, herbal prescription, TaijiQuan and meditation. Many schools offer 600-hour programs for massage therapy and other forms of holistic therapy, while others offer workshops and seminars that can last from a few hours to a few weeks.

Because holistic healing is so popular, it is taught in hundreds of schools, and there may be a holistic healing school near you. If not, perhaps an online course of study is the right educational path for you.

Holistic Healing Approaches

Do you know how healing occurs? Is it magic? If you break a bone, how does it heal? While an Orthopedist can realign the fracture, isn't it your body actually doing the healing, fusing the two broken ends together again? And if you cut your finger, how does it heal? While a doctor can stitch up the injury, isn't it nature that heals the cut - within. Science and medicine refers to this phenomena as the body's inner wisdom. It is an accepted fact. This inner intelligence is intangible. You can't see it, but you may sense it.

All of us, breathe, think and love through an unseen " life force." The Chinese call it Chi, the Hindus call it Prana. We call it simply, Energy. And it is this unseen " life energy " within you, that is responsible for all healing. When Energy is obstructed, healing is impeded. The intention in healing is to "unblock" this subtle Energy through very gentle techniques, restoring the body's self-healing mechanisms.

The challenge of healing is: understanding that you are very unique, multi-dimensional, and constantly changing. That pain and symptoms are often due to several reasons, not just one. There is the individual memories and spirit to consider in healing, plus the mind-body connection. And it is important to include nutrition. With 25 years of clinical experiences, I believe utilizing everything that works, is smart.
The holistic healing techniques I find effective are:

NAET - allergy care
NET - emotional release
EMDR - traumatic memory release
BEST - stress release
Nutrition - optimal absorption of all vitamins & minerals
Soft tissue mobilization - correct muscle imbalances

By "combining" clinically proven therapies, I've been able to get excellent results. Traditional medical care focuses on disease and symptom reduction using drugs or surgery. Prevention is your responsibility. I would suggest utilizing standard medical procedures and be open to utilizing complementary approaches.

Holistic Healing - The Whole Human Approach

"Treat the person, not the disease. The cause, not the effect." These words of Dr. Edward Bach (who developed the Bach Flower Essences) describe the essence of holistic healing. It's not the easiest course we might choose as humans. Yet many today find it the most satisfying and effective.

Here's how it goes. A person living the best life they know how somehow makes a mistake. Big deal. We all do it. But actions have their consequences. And some mistakes cost more than others.

Acting on the thought "I'm too scared to let my partner know what I'm really feeling" turns into a divorce.
Internalizing the feeling "I feel isolated from my family and community" becomes heart disease.
Repeatedly living the lie "My needs aren't as important as everyone else's" may result in breast cancer.
"I'm not worth the trouble" can lead to personal and financial ruin, as well as a wide assortment of chronic and degenerative health problems.

They're big mistakes.

Yet when the average person arrives at the average doctor's office to deal with the results of those mistakes, it's unlikely that the exploration would go that deep. If it did, the average person would most likely be embarrassed. They might even change doctors.

"What business is it of theirs?" average Joe or Jane would ask, affronted. "I just want the pill."

Our Western medical system, effective as it is in dealing with emergencies, has a less stellar reputation when it comes to dealing with conditions that develop over time. It doesn't think holistically. It thrives on handing out the pill.

Fortunately, we are living in a time when that model is sometimes challenged. It's not always comfortable, but it is what works. I don't know about you, but if I have a choice between protecting my comfort zone or dying of some nasty disease, alone and broke, I'd take the temporary discomfort.

Holistic approach? You betcha! Bring it on!

Sure, it makes me feel vulnerable to let my partner know what I'm really feeling. But am I ready to die to avoid the feeling? Absolutely not! I don't want the heart disease, don't want the cancer, don't want the varied assorted health problems, don't want financial ruin, and don't want the divorce. Sign me up and bring on the healing!

There are any number of books on the market that offer up their wisdom on the connections between certain life events and their resulting disease manifestations. Authors like Louise Hay and Caroline Myss offer incredibly valuable insights. I recommend them wholeheartedly!

Ultimately, though, each person's situation is unique and personal. You are not an example in a book. You are you. Your intricate situation is not to be replicated. And the person most qualified to diagnose your imbalance ... uncomfortable as this may be to hear ... is you.

Yet most of us won't undertake this process well alone. For good reason. It's incredibly difficult to be objective about our own stuff! The ideal situation, then, is to find a coach. A mentor. A guide. Someone to sit with you through the process, nudging a little when you need it. In essence, a "healing doula" to surf along as you glide toward that next level of conscious awareness.

Some things we do well alone. Other times we need the company. Holistically, it just makes sense!

Color Therapy - How Does it Work? A Holistic Healing Approach

Vibrations

Everything vibrates. From the planets rotating around the sun to electrons rotating around the nucleus of an atom, everything vibrates. Different organs and parts of our body vibrate at different frequencies. Each color also has its own frequency and vibration. In some natural healing schools of thought, different colors are associated with different parts of our body. As sunlight, which contains all color frequencies, benefits our health, different colors frequencies applied to our body could benefit specific organs and energy centers. The field of color therapy utilizes this information in its holistic health approach.

How Does Color Therapy Work?

When disease or injury disturbs the vibration and energy of an organ or area of our body, applying the associated color frequency could help restore the body to health. This is accomplished by the process of entrainment.

Simply put, entrainment is when two vibrating objects which are near each other begin to vibrate at the same frequency. If two mechanical clocks with the same length pendulum are next to each other, the pendulums will begin to swing in sync. The scientific explanation for this is that a when they are out of sync, a small amount of energy is transferred between the two systems and produces negative feedback. As they gradually adjust their swing, the negative feedback reduces until it is eventually gone.

Color therapy says that introducing a specific color frequency to your body will cause your body to adjust its frequency to match that of the color which can help bring things back into balance and allow healing to occur.

Color does not heal. Rather, it enables the body to heal itself.

Color Therapy Glasses

One simple and inexpensive way to benefit from color therapy is to wear glasses with colored lenses. Simply put them on for 10-30 minutes a day or more and you will have the light entering your body at the specific frequency associated with that color and area of your body.

Holistic Healing - A New Paradigm?

What do you think of when you think of Holistic Health or Alternative Medicine?

You may say acupuncture, reiki, nutrition or herbal remedies. And you are correct, in part. The above represent just a few of the many holistic modalities familiar and available to many people.

Traditionally, holistic healing is generally defined as a philosophy of health care that focuses on the whole person and uses natural and/or spiritual methods to bring about a cure. Physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects are explored so that the cause of the imbalance can be addressed.

As with allopathic medicine, the primary reason people turn to holistic methods are physical concerns. But focusing on the physical alone is not enough. Researchers have now begun to prove what was believed to be true for some time. According to the Center for Disease Control, the Mayo Clinic and other leading health authorities, at least 90% of diseases are stress related. They have found that people process stress differently based on the "programming" in our cellular memory, much of which is put in place in early childhood.

When we hold on to negative emotions such as fear and anger, consciously or subconsciously, it weakens the immune system and creates a disruption in our energy system. Although it may take years, this fosters an environment ripe for disease. Some of these stressors are forgotten as they were formed and stored in early childhood. To the adult mind, little issues like a dropped candy or broken toy now appear to be non-issues. But if they were traumatic to the "child you" and not released, they are now part of your programming and cellular memory.

The good news is that this research is coming from the allopathic community. Although there is still much progress to be made, complementary modalities are making their way into the mainstream. There are Holistic Nurses, Naturopathic Doctors and psychologists who routinely use energy psychology techniques such as EFT with patients. Energy workers are welcome in some operating rooms. Some insurance companies cover acupuncture and massage.

A New Paradigm?

In light of this integration, and the fact that both models have so much to offer, I would like to suggest a slightly different definition and model of Holistic Healing.

"A philosophy of health care focusing on the whole person (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual) using natural, allopathic and/or spiritual methods to restore health based on the needs of each individual."

The primary focus of such care would be to remove the cause, not just the effect (symptoms). In other than emergency and critical situations, patients/clients are first educated and supported as they make necessary lifestyle changes and use natural means of healing before resorting to synthetic drugs or unnecessary surgery. Yes, compliance is a big issue and will also have to be addressed. This too is part of our "programming" and may be a good place to start.

Let me share an example of how this holistic model worked in my own experience.

After my teenage son had jaw surgery, he needed and took strong painkillers, yet he would repeatedly ask me for Therapeutic Touch treatments to help him handle the pain. At home I continued the treatments along with strong nutritional support (since I controlled his liquid diet). Healing was supposed to take six to nine months. Ten weeks after surgery, in total disbelief of the X-rays, the doctor released him, saying he had never seen anyone heal so fast.

For illustrative purposes I am providing a breakdown of the four levels of healing and a few modalities and practices often associated with each one. In reality, the lines are much more blurred. Aromatherapy, for example, can be used to address issues at all levels. In addition, these four energetic levels, although separate, do intermingle. What affects one layer affects all, sometimes imperceptibly, other times noticeably and dramatically.

The four levels:

Physical- physical therapy, chiropractic, reiki, herbal remedies, pharmaceuticals, nutrition, supplements, exercise, massage, acupuncture.
Emotional- Emotional release techniques such as EFT and Z Point Process, Flower Essences, support groups.
Mental- Homeopathic medicine, change our thinking and belief systems, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), aromatherapy, education.
Spiritual- Meditation, forgiveness, gratitude, practicing presence, connecting to Source, loving ourselves enough to heal.

Until the system catches up with this holistic view, I hope you consider incorporating a "whole self" approach as part of your individual health care regimen. Your "whole self" will thank you.

Holistic Healing - Five Reasons to Inform Your Doctor About Your Use of Complementary Therapies

Are you one of those people who practice "mums the word" when asked about use of herbs, supplements and other types of alternative medicine" by your physician. You are not alone.

People have a tendency to keep their doctors uninformed about their use of complementary therapies. Perhaps they are afraid their doctor will think they are silly or might be offended. They might worry they'll be refused treatment or have to find another doctor who will support them. Sometimes they don't even think of it because the information seems irrelevant. There are compelling reasons to start "telling all" so your doctor can provide you with the best possible treatment.

It's important to tell your doctor about:

changes to your diet and eating habits
exercise routines and habits
mind/body practices such as yoga or meditatio
acupuncture, reflexology or acupressur
energy therapies such as Reiki, EFT, hands on healing
use of herbs (tinctures, teas, capsules), supplements, vitamins, homeopathic remedies
body work, chiropractic, massage, rolfing
any other complementary therapy

Why does my doctor need to know about my alternative therapies?

1. Doctors need to know what you are taking because vitamins, supplements and herbs can interact with certain drugs. Interactions can cause the body to process the drug differently, or cause unpleasant side effects. Some supplements can cause surgical complications. Your doctor may need to prescribe a different drug or dosage based on the information you provide.

If you take many oral remedies, it would be helpful to give your physician a printed list containing the names and amounts of supplements you take. You can include other treatments and how often/ long you have used them on the list as well.

2. Sharing complete information gives your doctor an idea of what you have been doing to help your condition and improve your health. It's important to note if you have noticed improvements and how long the results last. Also note which recent changes, if any, are responsible for causing or aggravating your symptoms.

3. Doctors are aware of holistic modalities, but may not be knowledgeable about them. If you share your experiences about a modality, especially when it proved helpful, he or she may be motivated to learn more or suggest it to another patient. Likewise, if your experience was negative, that also gives valuable information.

4. Doctors realize that non-compliance is a big issue and that most people just want a quick fix. They are not motivated to make lifestyle changes and will "fall off the wagon". If your doctor realizes that you are serious about pursuing a holistic approach, she or he may be willing to monitor and alter your treatment plan to accommodate and support your program.

5. You may also find that your doctor or health care facility is a valuable resource for referrals to a nutritionist or other resource such as hospital-sponsored meditation or yoga group.

Please keep in mind that your physician or licensed health-care provider is bound to treat you according to set guidelines. They have also been trained in a system using methods other than those favored by the alternative medicine community. Regardless, they are highly trained individuals with expertise in your condition. Most have your best interests at heart and probably share your frustrations with the system. By keeping them informed of your involvement with complementary methods, you help ensure that they provide you with treatments that are safe and appropriate for you.

Careers in Holistic Healing

If you've been searching for enterprising ways to acquire a respectable and rewarding profession, there are a diverse number of careers in holistic healing that you may find quite intriguing. In addition to professions in holistic nursing, there are careers in holistic healing like massage therapy, holistic nutrition, acupuncture, chiropractic, and homeopathy.

Professional massage therapists are making headway in the healthcare industry as more patients are migrating to natural healing alternatives. These careers in holistic healing require somatic education and training from a quality massage school or technical college. To compete in these careers in holistic health, students are opting for National Certification (through the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork) -- which demonstrates the following: the candidate has completed a minimum of 500 required training hours entailing 125 hours of anatomy, kinesiology, and physiology; 200 hours of application, assessment, and theory; 40 hours pathology; 10 hours business/ethics; and 125 hours of related studies.

Careers in holistic healing like acupuncture can take you to foreign countries. In addition to extensive training in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theories and philosophies, candidates that participate in these Oriental medicine programs are often offered the opportunity to travel as exchange students to China and other foreign Nations for hands-on experience and training.

Other careers in holistic healing like chiropractic can be very professionally and personally satisfying. Though this particular holistic health occupation does require comprehensive education (usually up to four years post-graduate training), chiropractic practitioners administer gentle, non-invasive spinal adjustments to patients to help with common health issues like chronic pain and other musculoskeletal problems.

If you (or someone you know) are interested in learning more about these or other healing arts occupations, let professional training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, naturopathy, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! The Missing Link In Your Holistic Healing Program

The word "holistic" embraces our body, mind and spirit levels of health and healing. We now know that the physical body often heals more quickly and completely when we include the mental/emotional and spiritual components of an illness.

But did you know that one of these three levels may be more dominant in you than the other two levels?

...that by focusing your healing efforts on your "strong suit" you will heal faster?

...that your dominant level, your healing strength, is your key in keeping you healthy as well as in healing you from an accident or illness?

Over 25 years of energy work and over 30 years of holistic health studies have shown me that each individual is predominantly a

* physical self-healer or a

* mental self-healer or a

* spiritual self-healer

and, on rare occasion, a combination of two with one being stronger.

I call these our "HEALING AFFINITIES."

Certain therapeutic modalities and practices belong to each category. When you plan a healing regimen for yourself, your primary focus should be on those therapies most closely matching to your self-healing affinity or type. To maintain a high level of wellness, you need to include matching therapies or practices on a regular basis.

For example, spiritual self-healers do well with homeopathy, prayer and aromatherapy, among others, but do poorly with prescription medications and deep tissue work.

These days, the choices in alternative medicine are overwhelming. It's easy to "try something new" and find it of little value -- not because of the therapy or the practitioner, but because the therapy does not match your self-healing affinity type.

Knowing your healing type is invaluable -- not only for healing and keeping yourself healthy, but so that others will be able to honor your choices and be supportive on your healing journey. It is very appropriate for a physical self-healer to take medication. But if he is living with a spiritual self-healer (for whom medications may be of little benefit, if not harmful), there may be a conflict that not only interferes with the progress of the physical self-healer but also hurts the relationship.

Now you can find out what your healing affinity is and get a list of therapies designed to work most effectively with your type and the types of your family members. You can also get recommendations on how to use this knowledge to keep yourself healthy, to maintain a high level of wellness. Not everyone does well with jogging. Not everyone does well with yoga. There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to health and healing.

I've developed a technique that reveals this information and have used it in my practice with great results. When my clients know their type, they are empowered to make the correct choices for themselves and have more success in their healing journeys.

"Cheryl's information was an eye-opener.

It explained so much, and I knew immediately

that it was correct." -- R.F., New Jersey

Menopause and Holistic Healing

The liver is very important when it comes to dealing with menopausal symptoms. Why? Well, if the liver is not working well, it won't be able to re-cycle the used hormones, causing problems with the body's functioning.

It is not common knowledge that the liver has so much control of the hormone function. It re-cycles old used hormones such as estrogen and actually produces some thyroid hormone as well!

So, how does this relate to a woman's menopausal symptoms? In Chinese medicine they use a term called excess "liver heat." This is the heat form the liver overworking. The heat rises and causes sweating. Other systems are involved too. The adrenal system becomes off-balance. It is supposed to create estrogen after menopause but if it is weak it won't, and this along with liver heat contributes to hot flashes and hormone imbalance.

To solve this problem, women may want to consider using holistic health. Through such a solution, a woman would work towards liver de-toxification and improved liver function allowing it a chance to process hormones correctly. From there, a woman would get her acupuncture points stimulated. This would help encourage her nervous system to process hormones a little faster.

Don't worry, needles are not necessary, this process can be done with magnets, lasers or little metal dots. Additionally, if the doctor is using meridian hand acupressure the whole process can be done on the hand alone.

A holistic doctor would also evaluate a woman's adrenal glands to make sure they are working properly. They will also see if a woman is experiencing actual symptoms of weak adrenal glands, such as hypoglycemia, tiredness, sugar cravings or even back pain. If they think there is a problem, they may have to develop additional alternatives to get things back in order. However, sometimes this may not be necessary, since often times the problem will get resolved through acupressure or detoxification.

Now, there are many people out there that may not think holistic health is a proper solution for menopausal symptoms. Yet, it is a much safer place to start than considering the alternatives, which usually include drugs and/or hormone therapy. Additionally, holistic medicine often brings about miraculous results both here and in other parts of the world. It is only the West that believes everything must be solved with a pill, which is why people are suffering as many problems as they do.

Ultimately, you can't lose with a holistic health solution. It is safe, affordable and painless. Best of all, you don't have to clutter your medicine cabinet with drugs that are harmful to your system.

Schools of Holistic Healing - Top Five Programs

The top five programs offered through schools of holistic healing may surprise you. In addition to massage therapy, were you aware that you can enroll in courses in aromatherapy, energy healing, iridology, and herbal medicine?

Courses in aromatherapy are great for established natural healers and massage therapists, or for those simply wanting an introduction to this mind-body-spirit medicine. At schools of holistic healing, these classes are commonly offered through holistic health workshops or seminars, or as part of an overall certificate program. In an aromatherapy course, students learn how to identify and use essential oils, flower essences, and plant remedies for reducing stress, anxiety, and even pain reduction.

If you find energy healing therapies like reiki, touch therapy, crystal healing, quantum touch, or chakra balancing intriguing, then schools of holistic healing may offer these classes as well. In most cases, these programs can be completed in less than six months and sometimes from the convenience from your home (through distance learning courses).

Schools of holistic healing almost always provide some form of somatic education -- namely therapeutic massage. To become nationally certified in massage therapy, it's important to determine how long the prospective massage course is, and if it meets national certification educational requirements. In most instances, you will need a minimum of 500 hours training in basic bodywork modalities like deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, and sports massage; among other health sciences (i.e., anatomy, physiology, and pathology).

Iridology and herbal medicine programs frequently go hand-in-hand at schools of holistic healing. Since iridology complements the diagnostic process for herbal medicine treatments, these studies are often coupled with each other to help future practitioners learn natural and non-invasive methods to assist in the natural healing process. In addition to learning about materia medica, nutritional supplements/minerals, and a diverse range of herbal plant remedies, students learn how to identify markers in the iris by using a specialized camera and reference iris map. Upon successful completion, students become certified in iridology and herbology; and can use these credentials for an entrepreneurial holistic health consulting business, or to further already-established natural healing services.

If you (or someone you know) are interested in learning more about these or other alternative health schools, let professional training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, naturopathy, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! The Truth About Holistic Medicine and Holistic Healing

Holistic veterinarians practice holistic or complementary veterinary medicine. In contrast, conventional veterinary medicine focuses on managing the body by treating physical injury or trauma, providing vaccinations, or prescribing antibiotics.

A holistic vet treats the whole cat (mind, body and emotions) and the cause of the illness or disease, not just the symptoms. Unlike conventional medicine, holistic medicine does not use drugs, chemicals, chemotherapy, or other treatments that harm the system. For example, a holistic vet may recommend vitamin or mineral supplement to boost the immune system during an illness, or she may speed the healing process along with herbal or plant remedies.

When presented with an ill cat, the holistic vet will explore every aspect of his life, including diet, home environment, exercise and other pets in the home, and recommend changes that will achieve balance in all areas. Holistic medicine places an emphasis on natural foods, including vitamins, and a diet free from preservatives or chemicals.

If you would like to find a holistic vet in your area and you can not get recommendations from friends or family, contact the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association or AHVMA at their website. Your chosen vet should be willing and able to answer any questions about holistic medicine or treatments.

If your cat has a specific health concern or issue, ask the vet what natural treatments are available and what she recommends. Ask about potential side effects, and decide for yourself if the treatment is right for you and your cat.

As a conclusion, many cat owners prefer holistic veterinary medicine because it does not use drugs, chemicals, chemotherapy or other treatments that harm the cat or kitten system. Your cat depends on you to provide him with the best care possible for his entire life.

Find Holistic Healing Centers in the United States and Canada. While there are several alternative and holistic schools, were you aware that holistic healing centers, such as chiropractic clinics, health and wellness facilities and other natural healing centers offer public education and wellness classes? Today, individuals can attain education in yoga, natural remedies, herbal medicine and various bodywork modalities through a number of holistic healing centers.

For example, while you are receiving natural health treatments, you can sometimes enroll in ongoing classes in meditation, Tai Chi, Qigong, acupressure and other similar studies. In most cases, holistic healing centers that provide these adult education seminars and classes will gear learning toward pathology-specific training, such as Tai Chi for arthritis. Other classes extended through holistic healing centers may include education in natural skin care, holistic nutrition and weight loss.

There are a number of holistic healing centers that also provide educational courses in hypnotherapy, reiki, reflexology, energy healing, mind-body-spirit medicine, among other holistic studies. Additional subject matter offered through holistic healing centers may encompass Bach flower remedies, herbal essences, essential oils, aromatherapy, shamanic studies, sound healing, consciousness studies, and many more.

Though the vast majority of holistic healing centers may not always offer certification programs, some may extend certificates of completion. My Fertility Healing Success Story Plus Ten Tips For Every Holistic Healing Journey - Part One

6 months ago I had doubts I would ever conceive. Now I am feeling the little kicks of a baby inside! This is my fertility healing story. How I achieved conception with holistic healing.

It’s been ten years since my hormones first starting creating havoc. Before then I thought I was perfectly healthy; sometimes probably a bit smug in that. I ate anything I wanted and as a 23 year old I had the resilience to maintain general good health.

Then my menstrual cycle began going out of sync. I missed a month or so, and then two or three, until the gaps lengthened to a year, and at the most two. Suddenly I wasn’t the perfectly healthy person I thought I was. I was diagnosed with Ammenoreah (extremely irregular menstrual cycles)

My healing journey would take me to times of confusion and despair as I searched for answers, but eventually I would emerge with wisdom I am grateful for.

Western methods of diagnosis provided few clues or concrete conclusions. I was neither over exercising nor under-eating. I could have started taking a hormonal cocktail right then, however that determined inner voice within sent me off searching for a deeper holistic truth. I consulted experts. Roger and I went through a year of adoption process, but finally my system began to come back into balance.

So what did I discover on the way?

Here are my 10 tips to assist you on your holistic healing journey.

1) Admit vulnerability and fears.

This doesn’t mean falling into a pit of self-pity. Although you will do this at times, you can learn to get out more quickly. I had to acknowledging the fear that I may not have children. I learnt about grief and how to really cry. What fears do you still need to acknowledge and move through? Whatever scares you the most can be your greatest teacher. Put on your healing warrior gear and act!

2) Work with others

Confronting the least comfortable feelings and physical issues with someone else as witness can also be challenging to start with. Being vulnerable with another person was a big ask for me, because I had to stop pretending that I could do it all myself, or that I had it sorted.

We are fortunate to have a wide spectrum of medical and complementary practitioners to support us. I see we are moving into an era of integrated medicine, where healing wisdom will be more blended between the east and west.

There is always more than enough advice and well-meaning opinions around when you’ve got something to fix. The decision of what to do and who to turn to for me, was governed by one question. ‘Will this person this person empower me?’ Listening to your true heart and what feels right for you, becomes the defining art of the journey.

3) Heal old stories through forgiveness

Bitterness and resentment are at the core of many diseases and health problems. I believe that a large part of our healing as individuals and a race exists in our ability to acknowledge these scary places in ourselves.I ask clients whether a certain old story still has an emotional ‘hook’?

Do you shudder when you recall a memory or person. True healing requires looking at these stories and forgiving those involved and yourself. EFT is great for this. So is ‘The Journey’, kinesiology and other cellular memory healing processes.

In my fertility healing I confronted the ghosts of relationships where I treated myself and others unkindly. This journey has enabled me to visit these places with growing courage. I find the miracle in this forgiveness process, is that the more I forgive the more whole I feel and the more connected I feel to others.

4) Improve thought patterns

Repetitive negative thought patterns undermine healing and acidify the body. Learn to recognise them (mindfulness meditation works) and transform them to positive alternatives. The health of the body follows the health of the mind.

Aromatherapy - Ancient Holistic Healing

Aromatherapy is the practice of using the scents of various plant extracts to assist in healing the mind, body, and soul. The use of aromatherapy dates back over 5,000 years and has recently been rediscovered as a method of holistic healing.

The most famous Egyptian technique using aromatherapy was embalming. However evidence exists to show that aromatherapy was also used in cosmetic and medicinal applications. During the same time, records from China indicate that hundreds of plants were identified to exude healing aromatic properties. Ayurvedic medicine, which spans the history of India, has always incorporated aromatherapy into its healing methods and spiritual practices.

The ancient Greeks were quick to adopt aromatherapy from Egypt and began using olive oil as a base. Romans learned these methods from Greece and were soon using scented oils in their famous baths. Although Native Americans and other native cultures around the world continued to utilize the effects of plant extracts, after the fall of the Roman Empire the recorded information on aromatherapy was lost and Western Civilization would have to re-learn everything. (Not one of the most efficient cultures, eh?)

It took the scourge of the plague during the Middle Ages to begin to rekindle an interest in this ancient technique. It was discovered then that certain plant extracts seemed to prevent the spread of infection and assist in decontaminating a house after its occupants had been afflicted.
A Persian philosopher, Avicenna (980 AD – 1037AD), is responsible for the reintroduction of aromatherapy. Once a method of distillation was discovered by the Arabs, it didn’t take long for the unfortunate Crusades to bring these methods back to Europe.

Very slow to catch on, it took until the 19th century before Europe and Great Britain spent any meaningful time studying the effectiveness of aromatherapy on humans. (I imagine we were finding other uses for the Arabic distillation process.) Finally, after a French chemist, Rene Maurice Gattefosse, burned his hand and healed it with some lavender oil he wrote a book on the antimicrobial properties of certain essential oils. Thus, aromatherapy as we know it today was born…again.

If it weren’t for Dr. Gattefosse and his burnt hand, we may not have such an overwhelming olfactory experience as we walk through a shopping mall. Most of the perfumes, candles, lotions, bath salts, etc. that we use today are centered on the fundamentals of aromatherapy. After all, we don’t really want to smell some of those ingredients listed on our favorite body lotion do we? However if we take this a step forward and learn how to best utilize the immense power of plant extracts we very well might spend less time at the doctor’s office and more time, well…shopping for bubble bath!

The sense of smell is a very powerful one. The average human can distinguish over 10,000 distinct odors and people who lose their sense of smell often suffer from depression and anxiety. It is believed that smell is processed in the limbic system, the part of the brain that controls moods, memory, emotion, and learning. When a person’s brain waves are monitored, it has been discovered that smelling lavender increases alpha waves in the back of the brain which are associated with relaxation while jasmine stimulates beta waves in the front of the brain and are linked to stimulation and alertness.

Further studies have allowed scientists to break down these scents in the following functional groups:

Monoterpenes: anti-viral, antiseptic, bactericidal, and can be highly irritating to the skin.
Examples: lemon, pine, frankincense

Esters: fungicidal, sedating, and very aromatically pleasing. Examples: bergamot, Clary sage,
lavender

Aldehydes: sedating and antiseptic. Examples: melissa, lemongrass, cirtronella

Ketones: ease congestion, aid flow of mucus, can be toxic. Examples: fennel, hyssop, sage

Alcohols: very antiseptic, anti-viral with uplifting qualities. Examples: rosewood, geranium,
rose

Phenols: bactericidal and strongly stimulating, can be highly irritating to the skin. Examples:
clove, thyme, oregano

Oxides: expectorant and bactericidal. Examples: rosemary, tea tree

Essential oils are quite different from fatty oils (e.g. almond oil or sesame oil). Essential oils are volatile and will evaporate quite quickly when exposed to air. Essential oils are soluble in fatty oils allowing the fatty oils to act as a carrier or base for the essential oils. This is very useful when using an essential oil topically which may be irritating at full strength. Dissolving into a fatty oil dilutes the irritant while allowing the healing properties to be easily absorbed into the skin.

A safer and more gentle alternative to rare essential oils are hydrosols. These hydrosols are a by-product of the distillation process and contain the same therapeutic properties of the essential oils but in much smaller amounts. Hydrosols are also much less expensive and can easily be used in a mister or spritzers.

Please remember the following safety precautions:

-Never ingest essential oils

-Never allow essential oils to come in contact with the eyes

-Take care when using candle-lit diffusers

-Some essential oils are irritants or present other hazards. Research the use of any essential oil prior to implementation

Here’s a list of uses for essential oils:

Bath: fill the tub with bath water. Add 9-10 drops of essential oil into the bath water, mix before getting into bath. Or add 9-10 drops of essential oil to one teaspoon of carrier oil, such as jojoba oil and add & mix into the bath water so the essential oil is soluble in the carrier oil before adding to the bath.
