Careers in Holistic Healing

If you've been searching for enterprising ways to acquire a respectable and rewarding profession, there are a diverse number of careers in holistic healing that you may find quite intriguing. In addition to professions in holistic nursing, there are careers in holistic healing like massage therapy, holistic nutrition, acupuncture, chiropractic, and homeopathy.

Professional massage therapists are making headway in the healthcare industry as more patients are migrating to natural healing alternatives. These careers in holistic healing require somatic education and training from a quality massage school or technical college. To compete in these careers in holistic health, students are opting for National Certification (through the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork) -- which demonstrates the following: the candidate has completed a minimum of 500 required training hours entailing 125 hours of anatomy, kinesiology, and physiology; 200 hours of application, assessment, and theory; 40 hours pathology; 10 hours business/ethics; and 125 hours of related studies.

Careers in holistic healing like acupuncture can take you to foreign countries. In addition to extensive training in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theories and philosophies, candidates that participate in these Oriental medicine programs are often offered the opportunity to travel as exchange students to China and other foreign Nations for hands-on experience and training.

Other careers in holistic healing like chiropractic can be very professionally and personally satisfying. Though this particular holistic health occupation does require comprehensive education (usually up to four years post-graduate training), chiropractic practitioners administer gentle, non-invasive spinal adjustments to patients to help with common health issues like chronic pain and other musculoskeletal problems.

If you (or someone you know) are interested in learning more about these or other healing arts occupations, let professional training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, naturopathy, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! The Missing Link In Your Holistic Healing Program

The word "holistic" embraces our body, mind and spirit levels of health and healing. We now know that the physical body often heals more quickly and completely when we include the mental/emotional and spiritual components of an illness.

But did you know that one of these three levels may be more dominant in you than the other two levels?

...that by focusing your healing efforts on your "strong suit" you will heal faster?

...that your dominant level, your healing strength, is your key in keeping you healthy as well as in healing you from an accident or illness?

Over 25 years of energy work and over 30 years of holistic health studies have shown me that each individual is predominantly a

* physical self-healer or a

* mental self-healer or a

* spiritual self-healer

and, on rare occasion, a combination of two with one being stronger.

I call these our "HEALING AFFINITIES."

Certain therapeutic modalities and practices belong to each category. When you plan a healing regimen for yourself, your primary focus should be on those therapies most closely matching to your self-healing affinity or type. To maintain a high level of wellness, you need to include matching therapies or practices on a regular basis.

For example, spiritual self-healers do well with homeopathy, prayer and aromatherapy, among others, but do poorly with prescription medications and deep tissue work.

These days, the choices in alternative medicine are overwhelming. It's easy to "try something new" and find it of little value -- not because of the therapy or the practitioner, but because the therapy does not match your self-healing affinity type.

Knowing your healing type is invaluable -- not only for healing and keeping yourself healthy, but so that others will be able to honor your choices and be supportive on your healing journey. It is very appropriate for a physical self-healer to take medication. But if he is living with a spiritual self-healer (for whom medications may be of little benefit, if not harmful), there may be a conflict that not only interferes with the progress of the physical self-healer but also hurts the relationship.

Now you can find out what your healing affinity is and get a list of therapies designed to work most effectively with your type and the types of your family members. You can also get recommendations on how to use this knowledge to keep yourself healthy, to maintain a high level of wellness. Not everyone does well with jogging. Not everyone does well with yoga. There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to health and healing.

I've developed a technique that reveals this information and have used it in my practice with great results. When my clients know their type, they are empowered to make the correct choices for themselves and have more success in their healing journeys.

"Cheryl's information was an eye-opener.

It explained so much, and I knew immediately

that it was correct." -- R.F., New Jersey

Menopause and Holistic Healing

The liver is very important when it comes to dealing with menopausal symptoms. Why? Well, if the liver is not working well, it won't be able to re-cycle the used hormones, causing problems with the body's functioning.

It is not common knowledge that the liver has so much control of the hormone function. It re-cycles old used hormones such as estrogen and actually produces some thyroid hormone as well!

So, how does this relate to a woman's menopausal symptoms? In Chinese medicine they use a term called excess "liver heat." This is the heat form the liver overworking. The heat rises and causes sweating. Other systems are involved too. The adrenal system becomes off-balance. It is supposed to create estrogen after menopause but if it is weak it won't, and this along with liver heat contributes to hot flashes and hormone imbalance.

To solve this problem, women may want to consider using holistic health. Through such a solution, a woman would work towards liver de-toxification and improved liver function allowing it a chance to process hormones correctly. From there, a woman would get her acupuncture points stimulated. This would help encourage her nervous system to process hormones a little faster.

Don't worry, needles are not necessary, this process can be done with magnets, lasers or little metal dots. Additionally, if the doctor is using meridian hand acupressure the whole process can be done on the hand alone.

A holistic doctor would also evaluate a woman's adrenal glands to make sure they are working properly. They will also see if a woman is experiencing actual symptoms of weak adrenal glands, such as hypoglycemia, tiredness, sugar cravings or even back pain. If they think there is a problem, they may have to develop additional alternatives to get things back in order. However, sometimes this may not be necessary, since often times the problem will get resolved through acupressure or detoxification.

Now, there are many people out there that may not think holistic health is a proper solution for menopausal symptoms. Yet, it is a much safer place to start than considering the alternatives, which usually include drugs and/or hormone therapy. Additionally, holistic medicine often brings about miraculous results both here and in other parts of the world. It is only the West that believes everything must be solved with a pill, which is why people are suffering as many problems as they do.

Ultimately, you can't lose with a holistic health solution. It is safe, affordable and painless. Best of all, you don't have to clutter your medicine cabinet with drugs that are harmful to your system.

Schools of Holistic Healing - Top Five Programs

The top five programs offered through schools of holistic healing may surprise you. In addition to massage therapy, were you aware that you can enroll in courses in aromatherapy, energy healing, iridology, and herbal medicine?

Courses in aromatherapy are great for established natural healers and massage therapists, or for those simply wanting an introduction to this mind-body-spirit medicine. At schools of holistic healing, these classes are commonly offered through holistic health workshops or seminars, or as part of an overall certificate program. In an aromatherapy course, students learn how to identify and use essential oils, flower essences, and plant remedies for reducing stress, anxiety, and even pain reduction.

If you find energy healing therapies like reiki, touch therapy, crystal healing, quantum touch, or chakra balancing intriguing, then schools of holistic healing may offer these classes as well. In most cases, these programs can be completed in less than six months and sometimes from the convenience from your home (through distance learning courses).

Schools of holistic healing almost always provide some form of somatic education -- namely therapeutic massage. To become nationally certified in massage therapy, it's important to determine how long the prospective massage course is, and if it meets national certification educational requirements. In most instances, you will need a minimum of 500 hours training in basic bodywork modalities like deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, and sports massage; among other health sciences (i.e., anatomy, physiology, and pathology).

Iridology and herbal medicine programs frequently go hand-in-hand at schools of holistic healing. Since iridology complements the diagnostic process for herbal medicine treatments, these studies are often coupled with each other to help future practitioners learn natural and non-invasive methods to assist in the natural healing process. In addition to learning about materia medica, nutritional supplements/minerals, and a diverse range of herbal plant remedies, students learn how to identify markers in the iris by using a specialized camera and reference iris map. Upon successful completion, students become certified in iridology and herbology; and can use these credentials for an entrepreneurial holistic health consulting business, or to further already-established natural healing services.

If you (or someone you know) are interested in learning more about these or other alternative health schools, let professional training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, naturopathy, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! The Truth About Holistic Medicine and Holistic Healing

Holistic veterinarians practice holistic or complementary veterinary medicine. In contrast, conventional veterinary medicine focuses on managing the body by treating physical injury or trauma, providing vaccinations, or prescribing antibiotics.

A holistic vet treats the whole cat (mind, body and emotions) and the cause of the illness or disease, not just the symptoms. Unlike conventional medicine, holistic medicine does not use drugs, chemicals, chemotherapy, or other treatments that harm the system. For example, a holistic vet may recommend vitamin or mineral supplement to boost the immune system during an illness, or she may speed the healing process along with herbal or plant remedies.

When presented with an ill cat, the holistic vet will explore every aspect of his life, including diet, home environment, exercise and other pets in the home, and recommend changes that will achieve balance in all areas. Holistic medicine places an emphasis on natural foods, including vitamins, and a diet free from preservatives or chemicals.

If you would like to find a holistic vet in your area and you can not get recommendations from friends or family, contact the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association or AHVMA at their website. Your chosen vet should be willing and able to answer any questions about holistic medicine or treatments.

If your cat has a specific health concern or issue, ask the vet what natural treatments are available and what she recommends. Ask about potential side effects, and decide for yourself if the treatment is right for you and your cat.

As a conclusion, many cat owners prefer holistic veterinary medicine because it does not use drugs, chemicals, chemotherapy or other treatments that harm the cat or kitten system. Your cat depends on you to provide him with the best care possible for his entire life.
